Summary: hours management

This is an example composition of the dynamic summary. The account can group and pick columns another way. Here the chart is Total hours: volume in the slice, without mixing in money.

It answers “where did the time go?”. Client, project, and person show up in hours. Cost and billable amount stay out of this example — they are in financial management.

Menu Reports > Customizable summary. The screen title is Summary report.

The chart

With Show charts on, choose the Total hours tab. The chart columns follow the grouping. The donut beside it shows the hour distribution for the same filter.

The example columns

Under Columns, for this slice:

  • Total Hours — sum of durations in the group.
  • Total Hours % — how much that group weighs in the whole report.
  • Group Hours % — how much that group weighs in its parent. With Client then Project, the project shows up as a slice of the client, not of the whole report.
  • Billable Hours and Non-billable Hours — the same time, split by the billable flag.

You do not have to carry all five on every hours summary. This set answers volume, the weight inside the parent, and what can be billed, without opening the money sheet.

The example grouping

Groupings: Client first, then Project. Up to five levels fit; two already separate “which client” from “which project of that client”.

Expand all opens the layers. Click an hours total to see the time entries behind that number.

When to use this slice

Use it in a capacity meeting and in a close where the question is still hours, not margin.

Do not use it to see what is left to invoice. That is the Billed status chart, in the invoiced management example.
