How to create a project
The project is the home of the work in Rabbiit. Without it there is nowhere to log hours, and nothing to filter later in the report. It can be a client engagement, an internal campaign, or any slice where the team needs to track time.
This article covers the New Project modal. The account map — project, task, member, activity — is in the getting-started tutorial.
💡 Who can create is an administrator or a superuser with the extra permission to create and edit projects. A regular user does not create a project.
How to open it
On the home page, the project list is in the left column. Click + — the tooltip is Create project.

Whoever has permission can also create from the top Projects menu.
What the modal asks for
New Project modal, Main tab
The screen title is New Project. Main tab:
- Project name — required. Use a name the team will still recognize in a month.
- Customer — link a customer. Internal work: the customer named after the company itself. If the field lets you create one, whoever has permission registers the customer there.
- Description — optional. If the field is hidden, use Add description.
- Private (Only project team can access) — if checked, only the team gets in. Without the check, the project is public. Details in public and private projects.
- Required task field — if checked, a time entry on this project will not save without a task.
Budget tab:
- Billing — Not billable or Billable by hour. The rate and what goes into the amount are in set billable hours and hourly rate.
- Budget — No budget, Total in hours, or Total billable. Consumption later shows in reports.
Click Save project. Currency and time zone already come from general settings — that is not changed in this modal.
If the account uses templates, the top of the modal shows Using… — you can start from a template or from Blank project. Copying an existing project is another path (project menu → Copy project...).
After you save
The creator is already a member. Next steps, on this project:
- Add tasks — the hour type.
- Add members — who logs time.
- Log hours or create activities.
