How to edit a project
After the project exists, its settings live in the Edit Project modal — the same form as creation, now with the project already saved.
Who can edit is an administrator, or a superuser with permission to create and edit projects and manager of that project. A regular member does not open this screen.
💡 Hours already logged do not disappear when you change the name. Customer, billing, and budget change what the report shows from here on — and, for billing, the rate history decides the period. Do not change “just to try” on a project that is being closed.
How to open it
- Open the project.
- In the header, open the Options menu.
- Click Edit project.
Shortcut to the money tab: Budget and billing, in the same menu.
Main tab
Edit Project modal, Main tab
The essentials of the card:
- Project name
- Customer
- Description
- Private — details in public and private projects
- Required task field — time entries on this project then require a task
If the account uses project custom fields, they appear on this tab.
Budget tab
Two blocks:
- Budget — No budget, Total in hours, or Total billable. For hours, you can check Billable hours only. Without permission, the screen says Insufficient permission to edit budget.
- Billing — Not billable or Billable by hour, with the project default rate. Changing the rate opens the history (from the beginning, replace the current period, or from a date). The calculation is in set billable hours and hourly rate.
Budget consumption shows in the projects list and in reports, not only in this modal.
Custom fields tab
Extra time entry fields that apply on this project (default value, visible to all or restricted). Whoever builds the field catalog is in custom fields.
Activities tab
What a member can do on the cards of this project — it inherits the account default and can be adjusted. The article is activity permissions on the project.
Click Save project.
What is not “edit project”
Members, tasks on the Tasks tab, archiving, and making the project private from the Options menu do not go through this modal — each has its own path.
